Forklift Masts Kennewick - Kennewick (population 73,917) is a city in the southeastern part of Washington State. It is located within Benton County and is the biggest of the Tri-Cities, that include Pasco and Richland. Kennewick is situated on the southwest bank of the Columbia River, south of the confluence of the Yakima and Columbia rivers. Close by is the Hanford nuclear site. The city is serviced by the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco.

Kennewick is the location of a significant archaeological discovery, called Kennewick Man. The prehistoric remains were unearthed in 1996 on the Columbia River banks. The Caucasoid features on the 9,000-year-old remains of what should have been an indigenous man have caused great speculation.

The origin of the name "Kennewick" is believed to be indigenous, from the native word that means "grassy place." The area's mild winters have made it known as "winter paradise." Amongst the numerous previous names of the city is "Tehe", from the sound of a native girl's laugh.

During the 1880s, the City of Kennewick was connected to other settlements along the Columbia River via steamboats and railroads. During 1888, the Northern Pacific Railroad constructed a permanent railroad bridge between Pasco and the city of Kennewick, replacing the ferry as the preferred way of transportation for freight crossing the river. A cable ferry connected Kennewick's west end and the Pasco side of the river up until the year 1931.

The Toyota Center hosts home games of the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League and the Indoor Football League's Tri-Cities Fever. A unique local spectacle is the hydroplane race that happens each and every summer on the Columbia River during the Water Follies. The Benton-Franklin County Fair is another annual summer event. The City of Kennewick hosts two triathlons every year: Titanium Man-International Distance and Plutonium Man-Half-Iron Distance. The commercial district of the city attracts shoppers from all over southeastern Washington, mostly to the Columbia Center Mall.
