During the year 1913, the city became the point of intersection of the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway and the transcontinental railroad. Now, the I-80 and I-15, two main cross-country freeways, intersect within Salt Lake.

Salt Lake City is known for its skiing facilities. The city of Salt Lake played host to the 2002 Winter Olympics. The outdoor recreation tourist business is essential to the Salt Lake City economy. People looking for outdoor adventure come to visit the Wasatch Mountains nearby.
