 Forklift Masts Westminster - Westminster, Colorado is situated in Adams County and Jefferson County. It is considered a Denver suburb since it is just 9 miles south-southwest of Denver. As of April 1, 2010, the population is projected to be approximately 106,100, making it the 7th most inhabited city within Colorado and the 237th most inhabited city in the nation. The city is a member of the Denver-Aurora-Boulder Combined Statistical Area and the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Money magazine ranked it as the 24th best place to reside in the United State during the month of July, the year 2006.
People began to settle within the Westminster region when gold was discovered on Little Dry Creek in 1858. When the Homestead Act of 1862 was enacted several settlers from the east arrived, further strengthening the small community. Pleasant DeSpain was the first permanent settler within Westminster. He built his very own home on 160 acres of farmland in the year 1870. As time wore on, the area became called DeSpain Junction. Soon after DeSpain built his house, other settlers started to follow suit. Amongst the most prominent was Edward Bruce Bowles, who was a horse breeder. His large brick house still stands today and is being used as a local Museum. C.J. Harris was another early settler. He came from Connecticut and was a prominent real estate developer. Westminster was inspired to change it's name to Harris and, during the year 1911, the city of Westminster was incorporated. Nevertheless, when Westminster was incorporated it went through one more name change to Westminster, in honor of the local Westminster University.
Westminster prides itself on providing a large assortment of recreational, historic, and artistic activities. The Bowles House Museum offers a unique opportunity to turn back the clock and experience the way life used to be. It is situated in a farmhouse built between 1871 and 1876. Those who are interested in insects and butterflies will be drawn to the city's Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center. There are interactive displays that provide insight into science, conservations and invertebrates. There is an extremely spectacular indoor tropical rainforest which is home to over 1,200 live butterflies. To see a gorgeous Rocky Mountains view, climb up the bell tower through the 181 stairs at Westminster's City Hall. One more popular place is the Westminster Promenade, that is an outdoor area that comprises some shops and entertainment venues. There are numerous play areas for children, as well as numerous trails, restaurants and cafes.
There are several nature trails within the city of Westminster, which has an open space system. Part of this open space system is the Big Dry Creek Trail, which stretches over roughly 10 miles from Standley Lake to the eastern boundary of the city. There are some other trails located along the Little Dry Creek, Farmers' High Line Canal and Walnut Creek. Land has been preserved by Westminster within the Standley lake Regional Park, the Westminster Hills area, as well as several other areas that have historic meaning to the city. Several facilities, like Westminster City Park and the City Park Recreation center, offer exciting recreational activities for the people of the city of Westminster. There are two gorgeous golf courses within the city: the Legacy Ridge Golf Course and the Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor.
