 Forklift Masts Connecticut - Connecticut is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is surrounded by Rhode Island to the east, Massachusetts towards the north, and the state of New York to the south and the west; with which it shares a water boundary within Long Island Sound.
The first European settlers in Connecticut were Dutch, when they established a small, settlement that is presently where the city of Hartford is found. This settlement was located at the confluence of the Connecticut rivers and the Park and was referred to as Huys de Goede Hoop. Originally, half of the state of Connecticut was a part of New Netherland, the Dutch colony, that consisted of much of the land between the Connecticut and Delaware rivers.
The English established the areas very first major settlement in the 1630's. Leading a band of followers, Thomas Hooker arrived from the Massachusetts Bay Colony to found what would later become the Connecticut Colony. Other groups of settlers from Massachusetts founded the Saybrook Colony and the New Haven Colony. Both the New Haven and Connecticut Colonies established documents of Fundamental Orders, considered the first constitutions in North America. During the year 1662, the three colonies were merged under a royal charter, making the state of Connecticut a crown colony. This colony was among the Thirteen Colonies which revolted against British rule in the American Revolution.
Continuing still to this day is Connecticut's strong maritime tradition, with the Thames River, Connecticut River and the numerous ports along the Long Island Sound. Financial services is one of the state's other main business. There are a lot of insurance companies in Hartford for example and numerous hedge funds in Fairfield County. As of the 2010 Census, Connecticut features the highest per capita income, Human Development Index (0.962), and median household income within the country. Even if the state of Connecticut is a wealthy state by most measures, the gap in income between its suburban and urban areas is striking, with some of Connecticut's cities ranking amongst the nation's most dangerous and poorest.
In the year 2010, the gross state product was $237 billion. The per capita income of Connecticut in 2007 totaled $54,117, that placed it first amongst all other states. There is, on the other hand, a great disparity in incomes all around the state of Connecticut; although New Canaan has amongst the highest per capita incomes in the US, The city of Hartford is amongst the ten cities with the lowest per capita incomes in America. As with New Haven Bridgeport as well as other cities in the state of Connecticut, Hartford is surrounded by richer suburbs. The unemployment rate of Connecticut during August 2011 was 9.0%.
New Canaan is the wealthiest town within Connecticut, with a per capita income of $85,459. Weston, Darien, Greenwich, Wilton and Westport also have per capita incomes more than $65,000. Hartford is the poorest municipality within the state of Connecticut, with a per capita income of $13,428 in the year 2000. There are other lower-income and blue-collar towns, mainly parts of towns, within the state's eastern parts.
