 Forklift Masts Elizabeth - Elizabeth is a city situated in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The city had a population of 124,969 as of the 2010 Census. The city of Elizabeth is New Jersey's 4th largest city by population standards. From the 2000 Census population of 120,568 there was an increase of around 4,400 residents or roughly 3.7% by 2010.
Popular Science Magazine named the city of Elizabeth one of the "50 Greenest Cities in the USA" in 2008. It was the only city in New Jersey to be chosen.
The community was originally called "Elizabethtown," when it was initially inhabited during the year 1664 by its English settlers. This name was chosen to honor the wife of Sir George Carteret, a well-known colonial proprietor. Elizabeth was the first capital of New Jersey. Officially, the name changed to become the city of Elizabeth during the year 1855 upon its incorporation.
